Jim has had a long career at the leading edge of new technology commercialization and products as well as deep experience of business/market/technology appraisal for venture capitalists, large companies and government development agencies. He has built a large number of successful business development partnerships in Asia, Europe, and North America with major companies as well as having a broad understanding of IT, web, wireless and video technology, markets and industries. For many years, Jim has been business and market focused and advising a wide variety of start ups although given his engineering background, he quickly understands the key technical issues and risks. He holds several patents, was involved in the 802.11, CT2, DECT, PHS, GSM standards making, is a chartered engineer and a fellow of the I.E.T. Through international serial entrepreneurial experience including 18 years in CEO roles (Symbionics, SiGe, Veridae), Jim has a strong track record of growing innovative, leading edge, start-ups using bootstrap, Angel and Angel/VC backed business models. In the last 14 years, he has raised over $100M of funding and been involved in many acquisitions, three of which he managed. He has non-executive and chair experience on boards of high tech start ups based in five jurisdictions. Recently, he has been applying his industry knowledge, direct hands on experience from four successful exited start ups and involvement in many more, to advise mobile, digital video, internet, EDA, semiconductor and environmental information businesses. He has also been undertaking mentoring activities giving back to the community and was named as one of the top ten ‘Rockstar” mentors by Start Up Canada.

Doug Konkin has worked in the IC, System, and Software Development industries for over 25 years. Currently a consultant using his expertise in start ups and software development methodology, previously he was VP, Product Development for Solido Design Automation Inc.  Doug also spent nine years as Director of IC and Software Development at fabless semiconductor company PMC-Sierra, Inc. Prior to this, Doug co-founded HyperCore Technology, an IC startup which was acquired by PMC-Sierra.

Dr. Steve Wilton is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia. He is an algorithmic expert and a leader in the field of architectures of next-generation Field-Programmable Gate Arrays and their associated Computed-Aided Design Tools. He was also a co-founder of Veridae Systems (acquired by Tektronix in 2011).
